Education isn’t always deemed an option for some girls in Tanzania, particularly in remote, rural areas. When welcoming girls to our safe houses, we ensure education plays a key role. By educating girls – their opportunities as women are broadened.

In order to help them achieve their career dreams and aspirations, you can now sponsor the education of girls in our care. We have outlined some of the current requirements including the roles in which each girl wants to make their stamp on the world.

Sponsors will receive regular updates from Hope for Girls and Women on their sponsee and their studies, as well as the wider work being done to eradicate FGM in Tanzania.

If you’re interested in sponsoring a girl, please contact us using this email link within each girl’s profile, if you have any questions you can drop us a line at sponsorship.hgwt@gmail.com.

Nyankaira

Age: 18
Village: Mugwera
School: Kiabakari School
Class: Completed Form IV
Ambition: My dream is to study at Dar es Salaam School of Journalism to become a Journalist, so I can raise the voice of girls and other women who are in a vulnerable environment. In my free time, I enjoy writing articles and sharing news with the other girls in the safe house. To have this as my career would be so good for me.
Cost of studies per year: 3,000,000 TSH / approx. $1,295USD
(Flexible payment plans can be agreed)

In 2017, during cutting season, Nyankaira’s brothers wanted her to be cut. She refused because she already knew the effects of FGM. The environment was not conducive at home, so she had to run away to a specific priest, where she was hosted for few days. Communication was then made with Hope, and she arrived at the Safe house.
